Italy

Benvenuto!
Italy is the European peninsula that is shaped like a boot. Its landscape is mostly mountainous. Italy covers an area of 116,305 miles which makes it only slightly larger than Arizona. Close to 56.7 million people call Italy home . Almost 20% of Italy's population is people 65 years old or older. The average Italian, though, has a life expectancy of 79.54 years of age. Most Italians are Roman Catholic. Many are not very devoted to religion and they are not required to attend services, but the church does have a powerful influence on the society.
Many non-Italians identify Italian cooking with a few of its most popular dishes, such as pizza and spaghetti. But,those who travel through Italy notice differences in eating habits between cities, even those only a few miles apart. Not only does each region have its own style, but each community and each valley has a different way of cooking as well. The average Italian eats about a half a pound of bread a day, and drinks 26 gallons of wine a year. France and Italy alone produce over 40% of all wine consumed in the world.

Ironically, though, it has the lowest population density in the world - only two people per square kilometer. Australia’s coastline stretches almost 50,000 kilometers and is linked by over 10,000 beaches. Making it the longest coastline in the world. More than 85 % of Australians live within 50 kilometers of the coast. The land down under has over 6,000 species of flies, about 4000 species of ants, and about 350 species of termites.
